Paul has been involved in different projects writing and producing original music. His album, Opening Out, was written with Graham Stamp and includes songs plus a semi-classical piano piece called "Dawn" (ending by Phil Tebbs). Paul sings lead vocals on all of the songs except for "The Whole Damn Thing", which is sung by Gary Gillyett with Paul supplying backing vocals.
He played keyboards on Simon Townshend's album Moving Target and also on Steve Larkman's album Love, Hope and Glory.
He also co-wrote the musical Amateurs (music by Paul Rogers / lyrics and book by Paul Shepherdson and Norman Parker).
