Biography
Paul began piano lessons at the age of seven and went on to study music at O-Level and A-Level standard.
After leaving school he obtained a place at Leeds College of Music to study Classical, Jazz, and Light Music, graduating after three years with a First Class Diploma.
Shortly after leaving college, Paul secured himself a job at the famous Stork Club in London as resident pianist and keyboard player.
His next professional job was a tour of America playing for Simon Townshend, brother of Pete Townshend of The Who.
Whilst on tour, the band supported Duran Duran and The Pretenders.
A while later, they made an album at The Hit Factory in New York, called Moving Target.
Later, Paul toured the UK playing for Blackpool’s The Hot Ice Show, and after years of gigs, including a summer season at Butlin’s, and playing social clubs in the North of England, he joined popular function band The Casablanca Boys playing for weddings, corporate functions and private parties, gaining invaluable experience.
Throughout his career, Paul has played for many top professionals such as Les Dennis, Jim Bowen, Lionel Bart, Duncan Norvelle and Joe Longthorne.
Whilst with Simon Townshend, he also worked with Mick Ronson (David Bowie’s guitarist).
Paul was a learning adviser and pianist at Hull College for the Musical Theatre department for many years, and also the Musical Director for Northern Theatre Company. He has been the Musical Director and keyboard player for over 30 musicals. Recently he has been working aboard a number of cruise ships, namely, Fred Olsen’s “Boudicca” and “Balmoral”, P&O’s “Oriana” and “Ventura”, and Saga’s “Quest For Adventure”, “Pearl 2” and “Sapphire” travelling around the world.
Paul was also the Musical Director and keyboard player in the resident band at Warners Leisure Hotel, Cricket St. Thomas in Somerset.
Recently Paul has gained an FLCM in Jazz Piano, a DipLCM in Electronic Keyboard playing, and an ARSM in Classical Piano. He has also returned to working at Hull College
and works as a piano teacher at Bacon Garth Primary in Cottingham and Welton Primary in Brough.
